CSC310 - Task 1
Choose Teams and Task

Assigned Aug 25th 9:45 a.m.
Due Aug 28th 2 p.m.

You will be working in groups of at most two on a large Database Management Web implementation project this semester, consisting of at least three visits with your client and multiple intermediate steps. The first task is to choose your team and project. There are three choices for a database project that will serve a need in the Centenary community. Rank these three options and I will assign projects based on these rankings.

Degree Plan Assistant

Clients : Gary Young, Registrar, Centenary College, Troy Messina, Assistant Professor of Physics

Students: Kathryn Hardey and Bradlee Robertson

Each student at Centenary must complete a degree plan by the end of their Junior year at the latest. This plan is a list of courses and details of how they fulfill the curricular requirements of the student's major and minor programs of study and the core curriculum requirements for a specific catalog year. This project will create an online Degree Plan Assistant to automatically detect degree plans which do not meet the curriculum requirements and aid the student, advisor and registrar with the process of creating degree plans.

Honor Court Case Database

Clients : Chris Ciocchetti, Honor Court Advisor, and current Honor Court Chief Justice

Students: Robert Poole and Jacob Jennings

Centenary's Honor Court is in need of a database to track and centralize information related to cases of academic misconduct. Only members of the honor court will have access to this database, you will be creating fake data to assist you in the implementation of this database. All records of case discussions and materials are currently recorded on paper and cannot be conviently accessed and updated by honor court members. This project could include an automatically generated docket for meetings and an electronic dropbox for anonymously submitting cases.

Athletic Schedule Coordination Database

Clients : David Hoaas, Athletics Faculty Representative, and Allison McClain, Sports Information Director

Student: Nolan Baker

Currently, all athletes give their professors a sheet of paper with their travel dates and athletic schedule for the coming semester. This project would simplify this process by placing the student travel schedules online in a searchable calendar similar to the current competition schedule, which can be personalized for each faculty member based on the students in their courses.
