Math 305 - Chi Squared Question
You are a biologist and decide to perform a cross of two breeds of
pea plants, one of which has smooth yellow peas, and one of which has wrinkly
green peas. You sprout 100 seedlings, and find that 44 are round and yellow, 24
are round and green, 17 are wrinkly and yellow, and 15 are green and wrinkly.
If yellow and round are dominant traits and green and wrinkly are recessive, you
would expect your 100 seedlings to have approximately 56 round and yellow, 19 round
and green, 19 wrinkly and yellow, and 6 wrinkly and green. Use the chi-squared test
to determine if your observations are consistet with this hypothesis, i.e. have a
p-value of greater than 0.05.
You can make use of the
Chi-square Table.
